Week5 3D

GROUP EXERCISE – Challenge assumptions

15 mins Open Discussion / 10 mins Blog
1. One student presents 3D design concept to the class – 2 mins
2. Open discussion on challenging design concept assumptions – 3 mins

3. Repeat twice
4. All students blog your observations – 10 mins

Idea 1: Paul Myatt Steampunk Computer

challenging design concept assumptions
- Is it safe?

Idea 2: Cherill Hopkins Helmet Cover

challenging design concept assumptions
- How much does it cost?
- You think people will like it or they will prefer the old one?

Idea 3: Queenie presents Little Brownie, Little Trip

- How old are the reader?
- Do you think it will attract kid attention?
- Will it has a problem about printing?

PRACTICAL – Design challenge / reflect & refine

30 mins – Choose your most recent 3D design concept from all your current works
  • •  In your blog make a list of 2 assumptions about your design
  • •  Challenge both of these assumptions (100 words minimum)
  • •  Suggest 2 refinements to solve these challenges (100 words minimum)
  • •  Illustrate your thoughts with sketches / diagrams

My bottle boat

Assumption
- It might reduce the cost for make the boat
- It might work well

Challenge the assumptions
- The boat must be cheap and not heavy to make people can move it easy. The purpose for my bottle boat is using when people face with the flood. At that time, people may not have much money to buy a boat and it should be very light to make people can move it very easy.
- The bottle should work well and doesn't have problem about safety.

Solution
Making a boat by bottle, I think of course it will be very light but it also depend on other equipment that we gonna use with it. The cost of bottle should be cheap if we use used bottle to make the boat. We also have to choose the perfect bottle (no hold) to make a boat and also make it safe.

I think, a bottle boat is a good idea to reduce to cost and recycle stuff. In this video, they also try to use it at the sea. In my opinion, use it when you face with flood should be better. If you use it in the sea and when you face with the wave, it may not safe.

Week5 2D

GROUP EXERCISE – Part 1: Challenge assumptions

10 min QUIZ & open discussion
Q1. Relatives - A doctor in London had a brother in Manchester, who was a lawyer - but the lawyer in Manchester did not have a brother in London who was a doctor. Why?
Q2. Bottled Money - If you put a small coin piece in an empty bottle and replaced the cork, how would you get the coin out of the bottle without taking out the cork or breaking the bottle?
Q3. The Restaurant Meal - Three women each have two daughters, and they all go into a restaurant for a meal. There are only seven vacant seats in the restaurant, but each has a seat for herself. How do they manage it?

ROUP EXERCISE – Part 2: Challenge assumptions

10 mins
MIKE’S AUDITION (see handout)

1. What would be on your list of assumptions - if you were Mike?
- Traffic very busy in the morning
- He could take the bus and it might be faster
- He has to leave home around 2 or 3 in the morning
- He need to take a shower and time for dress up

2. Challenge each item in the list and find a solution to Mike’s problem
- He can get up around 1 in the morning and pack his stuff in the bag. Drive to the work place or somewhere around there. Sleep there till the morning and take a shower at work.
- Take other transport like train, helicopter and sub way.

3. Share the results and enter them in your BLOG

PRACTICAL – Design challenge / reflect & refine

40 mins – Choose your most recent 2D design concept from all your current works
  • •  In your blog make a list of 2 assumptions about your design
  • •  Challenge both of these assumptions (100 words minimum)
  • •  Suggest 2 refinements to solve these challenges (100 words minimum)
  • •  Illustrate your thoughts with sketches / diagrams

My image for background

Assumptions
- I need a background in a brown colour.
- The back ground must be this small size.
Challenge
- The background is going to be brown and it is not only one brown but also have a lot of line and design. It might be hard to make the text and text can see clearly.
- This picture is a small size but need to put it for full background.
Solution
- If the background has too many line and design, it might be hard to put the text and make it can see clearly. The solution is put other sub background in a brown color. So, all the background is still or brown colour and the text also can read easy. More over, if you put sub background, you can choose whatever colour for the text without worry about can read it or not.
- The picture is a small size, if you put it as a background in full size, it might broke. The solution is make like many images in one background.

Research

This video shows how to make a background in photoshop. It's quite a lot of technical thing for me and I don't really understand it.  But I think it might be good video for someone who already have basic skill in photoshop and want to learn more about it.

Week11 3D

GROUP EXERCISE – Concept Evaluation

Giving feedback on the effectiveness of your design process and concept communication PART 1 – 20 mins
Students present 3D exhibition designs and explain progress in the last week The GROUP gives verbal feedback on:
  1. 1.  Appropriate storage location and file formats for professional presentation
  2. 2.  Progress in the last week
PART 2 - 10 mins Blog
Each student post feedback on all other students in your blog

In this week I didn't join the class and I didn't listen to the presentation. I will give my opinion on each students folder.

Paul Myatt
His folder is a very good organise. Every flies were put in an order and name which is very easy to look and understand.

Cherill Hopkins
Her folder is also good. every flies were put in a name which is easy to look and use.

Queenie Wu
Her folder is also good. every flies were put in a name which is easy to look and use.
my folder
My folder is not really good organising but I also put name and order on it to make it easy to look and use.

Research

Here is a research for my exhibition work "a pop up book".
From last week, I find the picture to be the model for my cover book and I choose this picture.
and also this video has similar background colour I want.

Here is my finish cover book.
